Music Program
The NEMC Family
NEMC is open to 195 students with a healthy range of musical abilities. We provide opportunities for significant growth for the advanced performer as well as for the less experienced. At NEMC, we rotate orchestra and band seatings weekly. Campers perform a wide variety of music and gain experience performing from various places within the section. Campers design individual programs according to their special needs and desires.
Our weekly program includes two private lessons, participation in one or more major performing groups, and ample practice time. Campers can choose from classes such as theory, harmony, composition, conducting, sight singing, jazz appreciation, improvisation, and piano literature. Our modern digital piano laboratory is a great place to learn keyboard skills.

All campers share one common interest—the love of music. Some campers with professional ambitions have gone on to become prominent on the concert stage, in symphony orchestras, and on the teaching faculties of public and private schools, conservatories, and universities. Others, for whom music is an avocation, have found their NEMC experience to be a wonderful part of their personal growth.
The NEMC Honor Musician Award, given to those of exceptional musical caliber, is the highest honor we award to campers who complete at least two months of our program. Students can also receive an NEMC Honor Camper Award. We present certificates and medallions to those who are elected, and display their names on plaques in The Lodge.
